Frequently Asked Questions

What is integrative medicine?

Integrative medicine embraces and addresses the full spectrum of physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and environmental factors that influence your health.  It uses a combination of lifestyle factors and therapies to promote healing and wellness.  Every person is different and so are their health problems.  Our physicians will work with you to develop a highly personalized treatment plan, looking at you as a whole rather than a collection of symptoms and conditions.

How is this different from a conventional doctor?

Dr. Weiser-McCarthy and Dr. Abdullah are conventional doctors by training. They have both completed internal medicine residencies at the nation’s top institutions and fellowships in integrative medicine through the University of Arizona. They have studied mind-body stress reduction, reiki, herbal and supplement management, and clinical nutrition.  All of this makes them uniquely situated to couple your traditional medical treatment with a more holistic plan of care.  They know what supplements are safe to take with your prescription medications, what studies are necessary to rule out particular medical diagnoses, what nutrition plans are most conducive to healing, and what complementary treatments have evidence to support their efficacy and safety.

Do I still need a primary care provider?

Yes, unless you enrolled in our concierge primary care plan, you will need a primary care doctor that you can see for annual physical exams and sick visits. Your primary care physician is a critical part of your treatment team and will be receiving an integrative medicine treatment plan after your initial consultation.  Our team works closely with many primary care physicians and we are happy to provide a referral if needed.

I’ve already had a lot of testing. Can you review my past medical records at my visit?

Yes, this data helps us in formulating a thorough treatment plan. Please upload any pertinent medical records to our portal so we may review in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to see one of the doctors before seeing your dietician, pilates instructor or acupuncturist?

Yes, we want to be certain that your treatment plan is safe, effective and evidence based. As such, we require that all patients are seen for a comprehensive visit with one of our physicians before they can establish care with any of our complementary providers. Our providers are in constant communication with one another to ensure that you are responding to your treatment plan.

Can I be seen for telehealth?

Yes. Dr. Weiser-McCarthy is licensed in New York, Florida and Connecticut.  Dr. Abdullah is licensed in New York and Connecticut.

Do you accept insurance?

Our office does not participate with any commercial insurance plans or Medicare, but we are happy to submit your bill to your carrier on your behalf.
